Digital Pedagogy Workshop Series

This workshop series for faculty and graduate students explores multiple aspects of digital pedagogy as they apply to a range small online classes and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).

Assignments and Activities
This interactive workshop for faculty and graduate students introduced principles for designing effective assignments in MOOCs.  Participants used case studies to explore how online assignments can facilitate engagement and active participation among broad audiences, and discussed strategies for taking full advantage of digital media in designing student activities.

Online Discussions
This roundtable discussion explored the challenges and rewards of conducting online discussions in the context of MOOCs.  Topics included: the role discussion forums play within these large courses; methods for fostering a sense of community among students; dealing with difficult or controversial subjects; and practical and administrative strategies for managing online discussions.

Peer Grading
This interactive workshop for faculty and graduate students explored the use of peer grading in MOOCs, one of the most misunderstood aspects of these courses.   Participants discussed several strategies for eliciting productive feedback from students and worked collaboratively to develop assessment criteria that promote student learning through the peer grading process.
