Why Participate?

Few signature academic initiatives will be selected and fully developed for significant support. Nonetheless, we hope that faculty will not be deterred from participating in this process.

Proposing an initiative presents an opportunity to meet a wide range of faculty across the University, to explore innovative linkages, and to raise the profile of our already excellent research and teaching on campus. This is especially vital given the number and quality of new faculty and innovative scholarship now at Brown.

Sharing your thoughts through this process is, in itself, a terrific way to let your colleagues and students know what you are working on. Furthermore, we hope to work with Public Affairs and University Relations to celebrate each of the proposed areas of activity. Finally, alternative levels and modes of support may be considered, as funding becomes available, as part of the strategic planning emphasis on growing faculty resources overall to pursue and achieve excellence and impact.
