To observe the Thanksgiving holiday, Brown University administrative offices are closed beginning at 5 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 and will reopen at 8:30 AM on Monday, December 2, 2013. Below you will find:

What's Open, What's Closed During Break

RESIDENCE HALLS remain open. Facilities problems that need emergency repairs (e.g., burst water pipe, broken door or window, toilet overflow) should be reported immediately to Facilities Service and Repair by calling (401) 863-7800.

DINING SERVICES - The Refectory will be open with continuous service every day through the holiday break; check Dining's web for actual (shorter) hours. We welcome everyone on campus to join us for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. Other Dining venues closed during Break; detailed information about hours of each venue is available on the Dining website.

HEALTH SERVICES will close at 5PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.  Nursing Advice (401) 863-1330 and EMS response (401) 863-4111 are available through the Break -- see Emergency Numbers above.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES will be closed Thursday through Sunday. For psychiatric emergencies, call (401) 863-3476 to contact the psychotherapist on-call. In a life-threatening situation, contact EMS through Brown Public Safety (401) 863-4111.

The ROBERT CAMPUS CENTER will remain open to Brown students utilizing card swipe under the Faunce Arch throughout the holiday weekend. It will close to the public Wednesday, November 27 at 5 PM and remain closed to the public all day on Thursday, November 28. It will be open to the public from 10 AM - 5 PM on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30 and will resume normal hours on Sunday, December 1.  The Blue Room will close at 3 PM on Wednesday, November 27 and re-open on Monday, December 2 at 7:30 AM.

FITNESS FACILITIES will have adjusted holiday hours. The Nelson Fitness Center & OMAC will close at 8PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 and reopen Friday, November 29 from 8AM – 8PM (although the Nelson Fitness center locker rooms will be closed Friday). The swimming pool will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.  Normal hours will resume on Saturday and Sunday for both the fitness center and the pool.  Bear’s Lair, Bigelow and Emery fitness centers will be open normal hours. LIBRARIES will close at 5PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The Rock, Sciences Library and Friedman Study Center will open for shorter hours on Saturday and resume hours on Sunday. Detailed hours on the Library site.

Brown Athletics has several home games over the weekend and Brown students receive free admission. The Campus Center will host several events free for students.

Amtrak Station (Providence, RI)

  • TAXI – Internet search on "Taxi companies Providence, RI" or take note of the taxis you see on campus. If you need to leave early in the morning, call a company the day before to arrange a precise time and location for pick up.
  • BUS - Use the RIPTA  Trip Planner to find a bus from Thayer tunnel (218 Thayer Street) to Kennedy Plaza (e.g., #35, 42, 49). Change buses in Kennedy Plaza to State Offices/Amtrak (e.g., #56 , 57).
  • SHUTTLE - Providence/Airport Shuttle has a pick up at Faunce Arch/Campus Center for shuttle to the train station and TF Green. Check the shuttle website for times and fares, and call for reservations.

Logan Airport (Boston, MA)

  • BUS - Peter Pan buses leave from the Providence Bus Terminal (2 miles north of campus, take a cab from campus to the Peter Pan bus terminal) or from Kennedy Plaza. Check the Peter Pan website or call Peter Pan customer service for schedules and fares, and to reserve your seat. 
  • TRAIN - MBTA commuter rail trains leave from the Providence Amtrak Train Station (near the Providence Place Mall). To Boston/Logan Airport, take the MBTA Providence/Stoughton commuter rail to South Station, switch to the Silver Line to Logan Airport terminals.  Please read the Getting to Logan info on the MBTA site for specific instructions! Check carefully for service alerts that may change train times or stops.

T.F. Green Airport (Warwick, RI)

  • BUS - RIPTA buses leave from Providence Kennedy Plaza (downtown). You can walk down hill to Kennedy Plaza or take a bus from Thayer Street at the tunnel. Current students who swipe their Brown ID are able to ride any RIPTA bus or trolley anywhere within the state at no charge.  Bus 14-West Bay goes directly to TF Green; check the Kennedy Plaza berth map to know where to wait for the #14. On the RIPTA website, you can also use the Trip Planner to identify buses to TF Green (Thayer St. tunnel is 218 Thayer St, Providence).  
  • SHUTTLE - Providence/Airport Shuttle departs T.F. Green every hour on the hour and has a pick up at Faunce Arch/Campus Center. Check the shuttle website for times and fares, and call for reservations.
  • TAXI – Internet search on "Taxi companies Providence, RI" or take note of the taxis you see on campus. If you need to leave early in the morning, call a company the day before to arrange a precise time and location for pick up.
  • TRAIN - MBTA commuter rail trains leave from the Providence Amtrak Train Station (near the Providence Place Mall).  To TF Green, take the MBTA commuter rail Providence/Stoughton Line (Outbound from Providence to TF Green, or Inbound from TFGreen to Providence). Visit the MBTA site for the schedule, and check carefully for service alerts that may change train times or stops.
