2011 Sustainability Progress Report Released

October 18, 2011

Brown University has committed to promote and maintain environmental sustainability both on campus and in the greater community. Since the implementation of an ambitious greenhouse gas reduction plan in 2007, Facilities Management has invested $7.6 million to reduce Brown’s energy-related carbon footprint by 26.1 percent. A dedicated focus to energy efficiency through both alterations of established systems and the implementation of fresh projects has made a huge impact in diminishing Brown’s carbon impact. In addition to the efforts by Facilities Management, many other departments and student groups are working on and off campus to lessen Brown’s environmental footprint.

The Sustainability Progress Report delineates the measures taken by Brown University to reduce its environmental impact in order to preserve natural resources, promote environmental health, and help mitigate global climate change.
