Panelists at a 2023 conference on Ustica

Thirty years after Brown professor Ross Holloway excavated a Bronze Age settlement on Ustica, a small island just north of Sicily (1991-2001), the local community organized a conference in his memory earlier this month. The Joukowsky Institute's Professor Peter van Dommelen was invited to participate, and he spoke about the history of the Institute, whose predecessor (the Center for Old World Archaeology and Art) was co-founded by Prof. Holloway, and the past 50 years of Mediterranean archaeology at Brown University. Prof. Holloway's daughter also attended, speaking about her father and his work at Ustica. The conference organizers have also translated into Italian Prof. Holloway's two books about the excavations, Ustica I and II, which will be available through Villaggio Letterario.
