The Brown University Chapter of Sigma Xi invites applicants from chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical physics seniors.
Applications will only be accepted between January 15 and 31 of each year.
1. A grade point average of 3.4* or better in the sciences (or the equivalent as documented by Course performance Reports to be included with this form).
- Include all science courses taken in the following areas: Applied Math, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Psychology and Astronomy.
2. 12 semester courses in sciences, including courses at the elementary level,
3A. 2 courses beyond the elementary year level in a science other than the one in which the student is concentrating,
3B. 3 courses, including courses at the elementary level, in two or more sciences other than the science in which the student is concentrating,
3C. Involvement in a research project under supervision for at least one semester. Provide a one or two paragraph summary of this research project.
*Note: If your G.P.A. is close to this, and you have done research, please submit an application, anyway.
These qualifications are intended to be guidelines and not to be interpreted rigidly. For example, candidates with lower grade point averages may be elected on the basis of research activity, or candidates with higher grade point averages may not be elected because of relatively poor performance in advanced courses.
