Lecturer in Chemistry
Sandra Russo-Rodriguez is a Lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Brown. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico, the daughter of a Chemistry university instructor and a father who worked as a contractor and did not attend university. She came to the U.S. at the age of 20 to pursue graduate studies in Chemistry and earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; after postdoctoral research at M.I.T., she worked as a researcher in industry, including at Polaroid and Amgen. Her main research focus has been the synthesis of biologically relevant compounds.
At Brown, Prof. Russo-Rodriguez teaches Chem 100, Chem 330T and summer Chem 100 web. She offers support to a wide variety of students in Chemistry and has a keen interest in teaching and advising undergraduates with an eye towards increasing the retention of diverse students in the sciences. Prof. Russo-Rodriguez enjoys reading, spending time with her husband and son, and traveling to spend time with family in Puerto Rico.
