Six Sophomores Selected for Prestigious Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship

New MMUF scholars:

The Dean of the College office is pleased to announce the 21st cohort of Brown Mellon Mays Undergraduate scholars. Edward Cleofe, Patricia Ekpo, G. Maris Jones, G. Emilio Leanza, Keil Oberlander, and Ana Ramirez will conduct research under the guidance of faculty mentors, and receive stipends during their junior and senior years to support their research and preparation for graduate school.

Brown Seniors Awarded Rhodes and Mitchell Scholarships

Clayton Aldern (L)  and Lucas Mason-Brown (R)Clayton Aldern (L) and Lucas Mason-Brown (R)The Office of the Dean of the College is happy to announce that Clayton Page Aldern '13, of Cedar, Minnesota,  has been been awarded a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford and Lucas Mason-Brown '13, of Belmont, Massachusetts, has been awarded a Mitchell scholarship to study at Trinity College, Dublin.  The awards were announced this weekend after both Brown seniors  participated in finalists interviews for the respective scholarships.

Brown University Leads the Nation in Undergraduate Fulbright Recipients and is the 3rd Top-Producing Research School Overall

In the Chronicle of Higher Education’s recently published report on the Fulbright program’s statistics from the 2011-12 competition, Brown University ranks 3rd among top-producing research schools with 29 Fulbright awards.  The University of Michigan is first with 40 awards followed by Harvard with 31.  Brown claims first place, however, in the number of undergraduate and recent alumni winners with 27 to Michigan’s 23 and Harvard’s 17.

Hadley and Rast, Class of 2013, Named Udall Scholars

Udall Scholars, Katherine Hadley (left) and Rebecca Rast (right)Udall Scholars, Katherine Hadley (left) and Rebecca Rast (right)The Dean of the College is pleased to announce that Katherine Hadley and Rebecca Rast, both Class of 2013, have been selected as 2012 Udall Scholars. The scholarship is named after Morris Udall, who represented Southern Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Stewart Udall, who served as Secretary of the Interior under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson.
