Summer Email #1: Mailing #1, Upcoming July 1 Deadlines

Greetings again from Brown!  

You will receive a series of emails with information about the things you need to do this summer to get off to a great start at Brown.  We suggest you create a folder to archive these emails for easy reference. By now, you should have received a packet of information with the Guide to Brown for Transfer, Visiting, and RUE Students and materials to return by specific deadlines.  If you have not, please contact the Admission Office at 401-863-2378. 

Our Transfer, Visiting, and RUE (T/V/RUE) Orientation website ( has PDFs of the materials sent in the packet. Please pay particular attention to the "Materials to Send to Brown" page, which lists important deadlines.

Be sure to check the website for upcoming deadlines. A few of the items due July 1 are listed below. Forms can be accessed here.

  • Housing Form (for students entering this fall)  
  • The Transfer Credit Form and Official Transcripts for completed coursework through spring 2013 (spring transfer students must submit a Transfer Credit Form and Transcripts for work completed after spring 2013 by January 3)   

Other important notes: 

  • If Brown receives final official transcripts by July 1, you will receive a final transfer credit statement when you arrive on campus and will see transfer credits posted on your internal academic record in late August. Otherwise, you can expect an updated transfer credit estimate when you arrive on campus.  
  • If you are sending transcripts after July 1, please send directly to Dean Maitrayee Bhattacharyya

  • If you have taken AP's, IB's, or A-Levels, send your AP or IB results to Brown, or bring official A-level certificates with you to campus for placement purposes or credit evaluation.

Transfer Credit Form Instructions  

Note: Please complete a separate form for each college or university you have attended.  

Column 1: list in chronological order all the academic courses you completed during a regular semester as a full-time, degree candidate passed with a grade of "C" or better.   

Column 2: list in-progress or anticipated (for spring transfers) academic courses taken during a regular semester as a full-time, degree candidate for which you have not yet received a grade.   

 Column 3: list the academic department in which you took the course.   

Column 4: list the number of credit hours for each course – this may be 3, 4, or 5 semester credit hours or 6 quarter hours (see your transcript—your school’s credit hour system should be noted on the front or back of your transcript.  If each course you took is not at least 4 semester credit hours, you should not expect 1 Brown course credit for each course).
For example, 1 Brown course credit is 4 semester credit hours, so I would list:  

Introduction to Public Policy Public Policy 4

If a course you took was 3 credit hours, you would then list

Introduction to Biology
Biology 3

Bottom: Write your name, the name of your college or university, and the beginning and ending dates of your attendance, along with the semester level and credits you expect and your intended concentration(s).
