Summer Email #6 (students entering fall only)

Summer Email #6: Fall Orientation Info (August 9, 2013)

Dear Brown students:

Your arrival on campus is now less than a month away!

Arrival: When you arrive on campus, you will go to the Residential Life Office to pick up your keys and an arrival packet. This packet includes important information about Orientation, the time and location of your academic seminar meeting (where you’ll discuss Beautiful Souls), the date and time of your first advising meeting with an academic dean, the name of your faculty advisor, and the number of transfer credits you have received.

Orientation: We’ve attached a schedule for our Transfer, Visiting, and Resumed Undergraduate Education (RUE) Orientation. Events that might be particularly helpful for parents and families are marked with a (P). Please be sure to mark your calendars for REQUIRED and RECOMMENDED events such as:

--Welcome Meeting: Saturday, Aug 31, 4:00 p.m. in Salomon 001 (on the college green)

--Academic Nuts & Bolts: Sunday, Sep 1, 9:00 a.m. in List Art Building 120 (64 College Street)

Please visit our Orientation Website
to learn more about Transfer and Visiting Counselors and Coordinators; they will join us in welcoming you to campus. (Check back next week for updated 2013-2014 Event Calendars.)

Transfer Credits: Transfer students who have submitted a final transcript will soon be able to view the transfer credits posted to your record, accessible via
Banner.  Don't worry now about assigning specific credits toward concentration requirements; we will explain this process during Orientation. We have not yet completed inputting transfer credits, so don't be alarmed if you do not see them when you log into Banner self-service.

Please note upcoming deadlines posted on the "Materials to Send to Brown" section of our
Orientation Website. These include several items due Aug. 15: Letter to Your Advisor, Academic & Student Conduct Code tutorial (follow the individual link that was emailed to you), registration for Chem 0100-web tutorial (only if you plan to take the Chemistry placement test), course preferences in your “cart.” Remember that you will not formally register for courses until after you’ve had your advising meeting during Orientation.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us!

Best,

Deans Maitrayee Bhattacharyya and Carol Cohen
Your TVRUE Deans
