Full year students then begin their regular courses at the University of Cantabria in late September. Spring term students begin their regular courses in mid-February.

Academics

Students select three engineering courses, one required Spanish language course, and one Spanish culture course; they will receive four Brown credits upon successful completion of the five courses.

A selection of engineering courses on offer at the University of Cantabria includes:

Academic Calendar

  • Full Year Program: late August through June
  • Spring term: early February through June
  • Optional Internship: June through mid-August

Housing

The University of Cantabria provides Brown students appropriate housing accommodation in shared furnished private flats duly vetted to meet appropriate construction standards, safety and security. Flats are furnished with beds, table, chairs and a full kitchen, but bed linens and towels must be provided by the student. Students also have the option of living with carefully selected Spanish families.

Internship Opportunities

Brown students who have successfully completed the full year or the spring semester are eligible for 6-8 week summer engineering internship placements. During the end of the spring term, the  School of Engineering  will work with interested students to determine a placement with a Spanish firm or a public works project. Students may be placed with public works projects sponsored by the City of Santander and the Regional Government of Cantabria, work alongside professors in research, or help with "on site" duties in supervised civil engineering projects, building anything from bridges and freeways to tunnels. Companies providing internship placements have included Ferrovial, ACS, OHL Gamesa or Acciona. Although not guaranteed, most internships will be supported with a small stipend.

Application Instructions

Apply by the deadline using Brown's online application system via the "apply now" and "return to application" buttons on the right side of this page.  Applications typically require faculty recommendations so it is important to begin the process early.
