Ashoka U Exchange @ Brown
February 20-22, 2014
Brown University is one of 22 colleges and universities around the world to be named a Changemaker Campus by Ashoka U - a designation that recognizes leading institutions in social innovation education. These colleges and universities share the vision for higher education to become the next global driver of social change and have built supportive environments for changemaking across the entire institution.
Who is Ashoka U?
Ashoka U - the university division of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public - catalyzes social innovation in higher education through a global network of entrepreneurial students, faculty and community leaders. Building on Ashoka’s vision for a world where Everyone is a Changemaker, Ashoka U takes an institutional change approach to ultimately impact the education of millions of students. They collaborate with colleges and universities to break down barriers to institutional change and foster a campus-wide culture of social innovation.
What is the Exchange?
Brown has been chosen to host the Ashoka U Exchange - the world’s largest global convening for social entrepreneurship education! Next February, over 650 students, university leaders, and entrepreneurs representing over 150 institutions from 40 countries will gather in Providence to explore and advance their efforts in social innovation. 2014 Theme: The New Scholar
In a rapidly changing world we need new methodologies and approaches to scholarship that will advance the frontiers of knowledge and discovery and address global challenges. Innovative and forward thinking institutions will reframe traditional scholarship through interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented skillsets for new knowledge creation and application.
The 2014 Exchange seeks to build a model of The New Scholar as a collective identity emerging from both the curriculum and co-curriculum: students from different formal and informal educational settings; faculty, staff, and administrators from various higher education institutions; as well as practitioners whose work takes place in the community.
How can I attend?
The Ashoka U Exchange is open to students, university leaders, and entrepreneurs by application only. Applications are available on the 2014 Exchange website and will be accepted on a rolling basis until spots are filled.

"For Brown students, public service and activism is a given. Brown educators and learners are compelled by questions and answers for the social good – new ways of thinking and acting for social impact."
