Substance Abuse

Brown University is committed to the maintenance of a campus environment that supports all students in achieving their academic goals. To that end, the University dedicates resources to support students in recovery from chemical dependency and to assist all students who are negatively affected by their own or others' substance abuse.

Kathleen McSharry, the Bruce Donovan Dean of Chemical Dependency, provides primary support in non-clinical settings for Brown students affected by alcohol or drug abuse. Dean McSharry collaborates with other divisions of campus life to provide over-lapping services to students in recovery, to develop campus policies regarding alcohol and other drugs, and to educate all members of the campus community about alcohol and drugs and their effects.
