Employment

The Writing Center is staffed by graduate student writing associates, in their second year of study and above, from across the disciplines. Associates generally work three-hour shifts, during which they provide one-on-one writing support primarily to undergraduate students. Associates also work with graduate students, visiting scholars, faculty, and staff. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Graduate students from all departments are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should have substantial experience teaching writing, either one-on-one or in a class. Courses in the theory of teaching composition, such as English 1950 or 2950 at Brown, would be beneficial, as would training in English language learning, learning disabilities, and scientific or technical writing. Fluency in one or more foreign languages is advantageous. To apply, complete the application form below and send it along with a substantial writing sample and your CV to Janet Peters, the Writing Center manager.
