The Department of Emergency Medicine held a private showing of the documentary 24/7/365 – The Evolution of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) sponsored a group of interested physicians called the Legacy Initiative to represent the history of emergency medicine & commit it to video. EMRA’s Legacy Initiative raised the funds to pay tribute to the founding fathers & trailblazers of emergency medicine.
Dr. Brian Zink, a Legacy Initiative member and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Alpert Medical School, provided some of his research, including audio & transcripts from his original interviews with some of the key figures from his book, Anyone, Anything, Anytime: The History of Emergency Medicine. As a noted national historian of emergency medicine, Dr. Zink was interviewed and helped tell the story of the field's development.
EMRA initially premiered the in-depth documentary at the Scientific Assembly, ACEP13 in Seattle, Washington on October 15th, 2013 followed by two in-depth panel discussion by some of the film’s participants including some of the pioneers in emergency medicine.
