Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency at Alpert Medical School

The Emergency Medicine Residency is a 4-year program based at Rhode Island Hospital in the vibrant, historic city of Providence. The Anderson Emergency Center at Rhode Island Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility and one of the busiest emergency departments in the country with over 100,000 adult patients per year. Rhode Island Hospital is a Level I trauma center, accredited stroke center, and the main resource for emergency care in southern New England.

In addition to the rich clinical experience at Rhode Island Hospital, we offer unparalleled pediatric emergency medicine training at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, a leading pediatric specialty hospital and the region’s only center for pediatric critical care. Our residents also train at The Miriam Hospital, our community affiliate with an annual emergency department volume exceeding 55,000 patients.

Our interns rotate at Women and Infants’ Hospital, a National Center of Excellence for women’s health, high risk maternal-fetal medicine and specialty newborn care. All of our training sites are located in Providence near the Alpert Medical School and the Brown University campuses. This proximity contributes to the program’s cohesiveness and promotes strong collaborations with other specialties.
