Dr. McKay's primary responsibilities are clinical. However, he maintains an academic interest in professional issues as well as both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy process and he is particularly interested in the manner in which "common factors" and "specific ingredients" influence treatment outcome within the field of behavioral medicine.

Biography

Dr. McKay completed his doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, his pre-doctoral internship at the Hines VA Medical Center near Chicago, and his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. From 2008 to 2011 Dr. McKay was a staff psychologist in the Department of Clinical Behavioral Medicine Services at the Miriam Hospital. In that role he was responsible for providing clinical weight management services to patients in the weight management program and general behavioral medicine services with an emphasis on integrated primary care. He created behavioral health consultation services at the Rhode Island Free Clinic and the Internal Medicine / Pediatrics Clinic. In 2011 Dr. McKay became a staff psychologist at the Providence VA Medical Center in Primary Care Behavioral Health. In this role Dr. McKay administers brief assessments and behavioral treatments and trains pre-doctoral residents in the provision of these services.
