AMS notifies interviewees of committee decisions on a rolling basis. Applicants who are offered a wait list position or an acceptance must respond to the offer within two weeks of the date of the decision.
Acceptance decisions are provisional, pending the AAMC-recommended Criminal Background Check. Post-interview decisions are transmitted through Alpert Medical School's secure online application system and via email. Only offers of admission are sent via US postal service. All admissions decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
An accepted applicant may request to defer matriculation for one year after acceptance of an AMS offer of admission. Reasons for deferral must be significant and submitted in writing to the Office of Admissions. Decisions are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Students applying to the medical degree-granting program at Brown University must be capable of meeting the competency requirements expected of all graduates, with reasonable accommodation, described in the Student Policies Handbook. Technological compensation can be made for some disabilities in certain of these competency requirements. Candidates accepted for admission who will need special accommodations cannot be admitted unless those supportive services are available, as determined by the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences.
The Technical Standards are transmitted with every acceptance letter, and an applicant should include a reference to ability to meet the Technical Standards when responding to the offer of admission.
