Program Description

The New England Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Summit 2015,  “Rehabilitation Considerations for the Complex Patient” is a one day conference targeted to physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, athletic trainers, nurses, and primary care physicians. The course will focus on a comprehensive evidence-based approach to evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of specified orthopedic disorders. This program will feature an integrated format combining lectures, open panel discussions, case studies, and hands-on laboratory style breakout sessions offering the opportunity to apply presented concepts and techniques.

Target Audience

Primary Care Physicians, Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Strength and Conditioning Professionals, Nurses, Residents, Medical Students and Fellows.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity participants should be able to:

  • Recognize current considerations for return to play guidelines and progression in concussion management
  • Develop hands-on skills for evaluation and treatment in various musculoskeletal conditions
  • Utilize current evidence in post-operative rehabilitation of various specified upper and lower extremity pathologies
  • Recognize the factors influencing pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of various specified spinal, upper, and lower extremity injuries
    Credit Designation

    Physicians and Physician Assistants: The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

    BOC - ATBOC - ATAthletic Trainers: Alpert Medical School of Brown University is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers (#P8573). This program has been approved for a maximum of 6.5 hours of Category A continuing education. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in the continuing education activity.

    Chiropractic Physicians: Application has been submitted to the Office of Health Professionals Regulation at the Rhode Island Department of Health. Determination of credit is pending.

    Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine: This conference is approved through the American Osteopathic Association for Category 2 CME. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine will receive a Certificate of Attendance for up to 6.5 hours.

    Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners: Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance for up to 6.5 hours.

    Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants: This programhas been submitted to the Rhode Island Board of PhysicalTherapy. Determination of credit is pending.

    CANCELLATION POLICY
    Cancellations/substitutions must be made in writing to the Brown CME Office at least two weeks prior to the conference, no later than March 27, 2015. A $25.00 administrative fee will be charged for all refunds (no refunds for “no shows”). There will be no additional charge for substitutions. This conferenceis subject to change or cancellation.

    Complaint resolution

    Two of the important values of the Division of CME are customer service and integrity in all our professional and administrative activities.  With respect to customer service, we believe that we must meet or exceed the needs and expectations of internal and external customers as well as stakeholders.  Ongoing dialogue with our customers and stakeholders is essential to understanding their needs and expectations.  With respect to integrity, we believe that following the Code of Ethical Conduct in the Continuing Education of Physicians, adopted by the three professional organizations in CME, and the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association is an essential part of an effective continuing education program.  Any complaints about either customer service or integrity must be responded to immediately and resolved as quickly as possible.  The identity of the individual making the complaint will not be made known to those affected by the complaint.

    • Complaints related to customer Service
      • Complaints related to administrative matters are managed by the CME Director.
      • Complaints related to educational matters will be referred to the course director responsible for the continuing education activity.  It is expected that the course director will manage the complaint as required by his/her department.  The CME Director will be kept informed.
      • Complaints related to integrity – violations of the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.
