Award Notifications
Individuals who have been offered admission to the first-year class will receive award notifications by the last week of April, if their files are completed by the April 2 deadline. All other aid applicants who complete their applications by April 2 will receive award notifications in early May.
Applicants who do not meet the April 2 deadline will be notified after their applications become complete, at the end of May. Late filing may jeopardize receipt of institutional aid, both Brown loans and Brown scholarships.
Awards are posted online through Banner, Brown University's student information system. You may view and accept all, or a portion, of the loans offered to you. You will be asked to decline any loans or loan amounts that you are not interested in borrowing. You may do this by accessing your student account at https://selfservice.brown.edu. Please note that once you have made your borrowing decisions in Banner self-service, any changes to loans that you want to make throughout the academic year must be communicated to the financial aid office. Paper award notifications also are issued soon after awards are posted on-line.
The Award Guide describes how an aid package is determined, components of the award, loan processing and disbursement dates, billing schedule, refunds, and other information.
The Budget Guide is a step-by-step guide that will help you prepare a budget to manage your educational and living expenses and to manage the resources available to meet your expenses. The guide also provides specific budgeting recommendations for living frugally in medical school.
The Student Budgeting Workbook and Charges vs. Resources Worksheet are interactive tools to help you "crunch the numbers."
In addition, we've created a ledger workbook to help you keep track of transactions in your own private checking account or to keep track of your debit-card transactions. Keeping a ledger of transactions can help you stay on target with your budget.
Financial aid recipients are encouraged to review these resources carefully in order to make wise borrowing decisions and ensure timely processing of your award
