Curriculum Overview

Curriculum: The Undergraduate Years

Students in the first four years of the PLME are completely integrated into the undergraduate student body and, like all students, have access to Brown’s entire faculty. During the undergraduate years, participation in a variety of courses is recommended. The goal is for our students to achieve competency in the natural, social, and behavioral sciences and in quantitative reasoning, and to provide a foundation for subsequent medical science and clinical courses. At Brown, creative students need not sacrifice the benefits of a rich liberal arts education in order to gain admissions to medical school.

As undergraduates, PLME students may
• work toward an AB or ScB degree in the sciences, or
• fulfill the requirements for an AB degree in the humanities, social sciences, or behavioral sciences, or
• pursue an interdisciplinary concentration, such as public policy or international relations.

Dozens of concentrations are available, or students can design one of their own!
