Tutoring
The tutoring program provides assistance to medical students experiencing academic difficulties in any course in the Medical School. Any student currently enrolled in the Medical School is eligible for tutoring.
Students may refer themselves or be referred by their course leaders, an advisor, or by members of the Office of Medical Education. Students should be proactive in discussing their needs with any and all of these individuals. Specific tutoring assignments are most often made in consultation with Dr. Richard Dollase in the Office of Medical Education.
Once a tutor has been identified, the student is responsible for making necessary arrangements.
- Please note: The tutor must provide the Office of Student Affairs with his/her Social Security number and complete periodic student payroll reports. Please contact Cindy Tosone (Cindy_Tosone@brown.edu) to complete payroll enrollment.
A student may sign up for a tutor anytime during a semester.
Academic Enhancement Program
The Academic Enhancement Program provides resources to students for the purposes of course preparation, licensing exam preparation, and other academic matters, including issues relating to learning style. The Program also hosts workshops and panel presentations regarding study skills, time management and balancing priorities while in medical school.
These services are provided by members of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Office of Medical Education (OME), as well as by Brown’s Office of Student Life.
Student Wellness
Student wellness and management of stress and anxiety are an important part of achieving academic success. To help manage stress, a weekly optional course of mindfulness meditation will be offered to students. In addition to the above advising and counseling services, students are advised to utilize the peer counseling and support services provided by the Student Health Council.
Accommodations and Support for Unique Learning Profiles, Physical and Medical Conditions
The directors of the student academies (Ms. Green, Ms. Kochis, and Ms. Morang) are available to arrange referrals for consultative services (neuropsychologists, other learning specialists, learning enhancement programs).
In addition to evaluation, students will be provided with assistance in reviewing test results and securing accommodations, when indicated.
