The Quebec Students Strike Back!
7:00 PM
Salomon Hall 001

Last Spring the largest student movement in Canadian history was born in the province of Quebec. Led by the student union named CLASSE, three quarters of all of the students in Quebec went on strike against a tuition hike of over 75% and a government law, Bill 78, essentially outlawing their protest. Their movement won great victories, securing an end to the tuition hike and the repeal Bill 78. But it is far from over - many students want to press on, demanding their right to free public higher education for all!

Hear from Guillaume Legault a leader of CLASSE, about this historic strike, its prospects for the future and its relevance to higher education in the United States.

Sponsored by the International Socialist Organization, Student Labor Alliance, Students for a Democratic Society, Brown for Financial Aid, Coalition to Defend Public Education, Teachers for a Democratic Union, and the History, Modern Culture and Media and French departments.
