Kelley A. Smith brings more than 12 years’ experience at the PSTC to her position. While in a former administrative position at the PSTC, Smith enrolled in Brown’s Master of Public Health program, where she focused on issues in global health, qualitative research, and innovative methods for collecting sensitive data. She graduated in 2008. In addition to providing support to PSTC faculty such as assistance with the development of survey instruments and preparation of IRB protocols, Smith’s involvement with PSTC research has included travel to Bangladesh to train fieldworkers at Dhaka University and two trips to Ethiopia to assist with MPH curriculum development and training of female MPH students from Haramaya and Jimma Universities. Smith has been integrally involved with formal synergistic activities with our African alumni and our partner institutions in the Wits-Brown-Colorado-APHRC colloquium since their inception. After a hiatus from PSTC to serve as Field Director of a Brown-affiliated health research trial in American Samoa, Smith returned to campus as a coordinator for several faculty projects and as a part-time editor for PSTC and the Department of Sociology. She also works as a freelance academic editor.
