The information services offered by the PSTC are designed to provide a conduit between PSTC researchers and both broader university services and the world external to Brown. The staff focus on effectively communicating research results to appropriate audiences. Key services include proposal consultation and editing, dissemination and archiving services, library support, and media relations and advancement coordination.
Proposal Consultation and Editing
To help faculty and their research teams, staff also consult on grant proposal identification and development for NIH, NSF, and other government and private sector applications. The Center also provides professional editing for associates submitting grants through the PSTC. Key support items provided include:
- Identifying funding opportunities
- Consultation on grant mechanism selection
- Overview of grant management services for new PIs
- Manuscript editing
Dissemination and Archiving Services
PSTC staff handle both internal and external announcements about events, funding opportunities, and requests for information about in-house research. Staff are also developing manuscript submission and dataset deposit services, both to assist researchers with NIH Public Access Policy compliance and to ensure that research materials are made broadly available in perpetuity.
Library and Information Services
Researchers at the PSTC benefit from the presence of a librarian who provides assistance with electronic literature searches, locates materials for researchers within Brown's collection and elsewhere, and manages and develops the university library's holdings to support population studies. Additionally, the librarian is available to discuss reference questions, clarify bibliographic citations, and help assess or organize information resources.
The librarian also provides bibliographic instruction to the Center's trainees and visiting scholars, acquainting them with the university library's holdings and the availability of electronic resources.

Media Relations and Advancement Coordination
Working with Brown's Media Relations office, communications staff identify news and feature stories and develop media plans that highlight the PSTC's research, mission, and vision. Staff also field media requests, write articles as needed, and serve as the contact for advancement opportunities. For funding inquiries, please contact Andrew Foster, PSTC Director.
Access to Services
All PSTC associates are eligible for all services mentioned above, including postdoctoral fellows and visitors. This type of support allows PSTC associates to concentrate on scientific matters in grant applications, day-to-day research collaboration, and manuscript production.
