De-Extinction: Should we use genetic engineering technology to resurrect lost species?

November 24, 2013

The Brown Political Forum and the Biology and Human Biology Departmental Undergraduate Groups will be hosting a discussion  this Monday—November 25th, at 8:00 PM in Wilson 205.

Come join a discussion about the re-creation of extinct species through cloning, backbreeding, or genetic engineering!

The prospect of reviving lost species raises a number of ethical questions. For example, would the option of de-extinction create a sense complacency in current conservation efforts? Who should regulate and/or perform de-extinction? Do we owe justice to species extincted through human activities? What are the dangers of re-introducing previously extinct species?

Pizza will be provided.
