This is an NSF funded program that allows certified and pre-service K-12 teachers the opportunity to work for six weeks during the summer under the guidance of an MRSEC faculty member.  The RET program focuses on development of relationship with secondary and high school science teachers, introduction of modern engineering into the school curricula, providing teachers with the excitement of research environment, foster the development of teaching modules with more advance concepts that teachers can use in their classrooms. Although the RET program is targeted at science teachers, teachers in fields such as art, economics, and math are also considered through a team teaching approach, to encourage students to consider issues of engineering design, business, as well as the mathematical framework that underpins so many of the principles of engineering science.

The primary mission of the RET program is to build relationships with secondary and high school teachers, thereby introducing modern engineering into the schools’ curricula
