Women in Science and Engineering(WiSE)
WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) provides young women with the information they may need to stay in the sciences, succeed, and go on to science and engineering related work and graduate study.
WiSE works toward creating a sense of community of and for women in the sciences at Brown University. The program addresses the challenges women face both in the science classroom and upon entering the workforce as scientists. On Brown's campus, WiSE coordinators encourage undergraduates to pursue and continue their studies in the sciences.
In the community, WiSE brings information and excitement about the sciences to students in Providence schools and after-school programs. The Athena Challenge (ASC), WiSE's largest outreach effort, brings high school girls from across the northeast to Brown and engages them by providing an opportunity to demonstrate and enrich their scientific knowledge, skills, and creativity.
