Professor Cheit joined the faculty in 1986, coming to Brown from UC-Berkeley where he received his law degree and a PhD in public policy. His graduate work revolved around regulatory agencies and issues of insurance and risk, leading to his book, Setting Safety Standards. In recent years, Professor Cheit has been working on a book at the intersection of law, psychology and political science. Cheit also works on issues related to ethics in government and he is currently the chair of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission.
