There is always something going on in and outside of Lyman Hall, whether in Leeds Theatre, Ashamu Dance Studio, Becker Library or the classrooms. Our proscenium house, Stuart Theatre, also houses our costume shop and one of our two scene shops. The John Street Design Studio provides another arena in which our students design and realize work.
Rosa Cuchillo by YuyachkaniEvery season, the Department mounts both theatre and dance productions along with a multitude of special events. Students are active in every aspect of production - learning the rigors of craft through participation in production as well as through class work in acting and directing, dance, playwriting, movement, history, theory, design, technical theatre, intermedial performance, and performance ethnography.
All That Rises, 2011Undergraduates, graduate students, staff and faculty are constantly busy making theatre, dance, performance art, scholarship, designs, sets, plots, costumes, philosophies, plays, manifestos, installations, conversations, and fabulous combinations of everything. Faculty all have office hours and welcome talking with students. In fact, students make Lyman their home, choosing to get involved even when they concentrate in a different department or make most of their theatre and dance in student performance groups beyond our stages.
