Jim Dennen

Jim Dennen is doing research on improvisation & critical theory.  He has an MFA in directing from UCLA and his work asJim DennenJim Dennen a theatre artist and director has been seen in regional theaters and festivals around the U.S. and abroad.  In 2006, he devised and directedWants and Needs, an original piece for the Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago – a city he calls his “artistic home” – where his recent production of Final Angel, a new play by Stephanie Kuehn, was the winner of three After Dark Awards – including Best Direction, Best Ensemble, and Best New Work. Jim was the founding director of ED, whose experimental improvisational work was seen in Chicago at the Organic Theatre Company, Remains Theatre, Victory Gardens, Famous Door, Facets Multimedia, and the Steppenwolf Theatre, as well as numerous venues in New York, Montreal, and Los Angeles. He has taught Acting, Directing, and Improvisation for Actors at UCLA and Brown and has an article forthcoming in TDR entitled “On Reception of Improvised Music.”
