Laura Colella writes and directs for theatre and film and is a third-year student in Writing for Performance. Most of her creative work has been in film, and includes three narrative features and several shorts. Her most recent feature, BREAKFAST WITH CURTIS, earned her several festival awards, and an award and nomination at the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards. It was released theatrically in 2013 by Abramorama and digitally by Bond 360 in 2014. Laura was a Sundance Directing and Screenwriting Fellow with her second feature STAY UNTIL TOMORROW, and her first feature TAX DAY also received support from Sundance. Laura’s films have screened at well over 100 festivals, winning over 25 awards. At Brown, she wrote and directed a staged reading of her adaptation LIQUORLAND, and a workshop production of BACK EAST OUT WEST before her current production MAGIC HOUR. Laura studied film as an undergraduate at Harvard, and is represented by United Talent Agency and Circle of Confusion. She also teaches directing, screenwriting and filmmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University and Vermont College of Fine Arts, collaborates on multimedia productions with the Everett Company, and freelances in screenwriting, cinematography and editing.
