David Winton Bell Gallery

Drawings

The drawing collection is small but diverse, containing works by 19th- and early 20th-century masters such as Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, and Joan Miro, and contemporary works by Mel Bochner, Barry Le Va, Richard Artschwager, Terry Winters, Dorothea Rockburne, Hannah Wilke, and others.

It includes an early collage by Robert Motherwell, dating from 1946, and an exceptional drawing by Diego Rivera: a study for the Detroit Industry mural (1932–33) given to the university by the artist in 1935.

Works on paper by Providence-based, nationally acclaimed artists Richard Fleischner and Howard Ben Tre are also part of the collection.
