Brown West Coast

BROWN WEST COAST INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Brown West Coast began as a pilot program in 2012, offering summer internship opportunities in the San Francisco area for current Brown undergraduates.  Participating organizations are owned by or currently employ Brown alumni.

The internships are from a range of startups and offer students challenging and engaging experiences which complement curricular pursuits, as well as help define professional goals being considered in preparation for life after Brown.

"I have always believed in internship programs.  I benefited from it when I was a senior at Brown and I have tried to get summer interns from Brown almost every year.  This year we had another fantastic crop of three interns.  We found them to be most productive, not a surprise given that they go to Brown.

This is a great way for juniors and seniors-to-be to get a better sense of what it is like in a professional workplace and what kind of career choice they should be making.  We put these interns on very important and meaningful programs.  Being a startup it exposed them to a lot of pieces of how companies operate.

Each of them found themselves to be very motivated and engaged as people were relying on their work to take the company forward.  I believe that working for a Silicon Valley startup is a life changing experience for a Brown undergraduate, no matter what concentration or career objectives."  ~ Naaem Zafar '81, President & CEO, BitzerMobile
