Club Sports, Intramural Sports and Fitness
Brown offers a range of programs that enable all students to enjoy physical activity. Students may participate in intramural and club sports, physical education classes, and many other fitness activities. For more information, see the Health & Wellness entry on this site.
As a member of the Ivy League, Brown sponsors 37 intercollegiate sports teams that compete in NCAA Division I, the highest level of collegiate competition. Attendance at all regular-season competitions is free to Brown students who show their Brown ID. Team rosters and competition schedules are published at http://brownbears.com.
Our varsity student-athletes benefit from the many resources available to all Brown students. In addition, members of varsity teams may seek advice from their team captains and peer advisors, the team's Faculty/Dean Liaison, and the associate or assistant athletic director who supervises their sport. As required by the NCAA, all student-athletes receive a handbook that contains critical information about NCAA and Ivy League rules, Brown's athletic policies, and resources for student athletes. Topics include eligibility, limits on hours of participation, employment restrictions, tickets to games, grievance procedures, and school transfer requests. The Student Athlete Handbook is available on our Athletics website under the Compliance section.
Brown's Athletic Compliance Office is available to all student-athletes to answer questions about eligibility and rules. Our compliance staff regularly educates student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff about these rules, and provides information for parents of student-athletes and supporters of Brown Athletics. If you have a question about Ivy League or NCAA rules, please refer to the Compliance page, and feel free to contact the Compliance staff.
