The following is the schedule from International Orientation 2013.  We anticipate that the 2014 schedule will be available in April 2014.

Wednesday: Move-In Day

Check in, pick up International Orientation program materials, and get some move-in assistance from your friendly IMP mentors!

** After 1 AM, students should contact the Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322 or 75 Charlesfield Street to gain access to their residence hall room.  Please then come to registration on Thursday morning.

Passport Registration (mandatory for all visa students)

Bring your passport, I-20 and I-94 card with you and meet the staff of the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS).

Join mentors on a walk that will pass by the Kennedy Plaza bus central on the way to the mall for shopping.

Explore Brown’s Libraries and Rare Books Collection

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (P)
Take a tour of Brown’s Rockefeller and John Hay libraries led by a library faculty. Become acquainted with the libraries’ resources, visit their open stacks, and peruse through Brown’s rare book collection.
Meet in the lobby of the Rockerfeller Library, 10 Prospect Street.

Campus Tours

5:30 PM – 7:00 PM(P)
Familiarize yourself with Brown and join us for tours of the main campus area. This is an additional tour time added for International Orientation. Families and students may also go on tours daily all week at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM departing from Faunce Arch; please check-in at the Welcome and Information Center inside the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center.

Deans from the Offices of the Dean of the College and Student Life will be on hand to engage with students and their families. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, get to know Brown resources, and familiarize yourself with how accessible deans are at Brown!

American Academic Conventions and Academic Writing

Prepare for your time at Brown through a series of presentations and workshops. You'll get a little practice at critical readings skills, understand distinctly American academic conventions, learn about different disciplines, and explore the writing process. This program is for all international students -- with opportunities targeted at various levels of familiarity with American academic culture.

Lunch with Brown Faculty

12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
We asked international students to nominate their favorite faculty -- and now you get to have lunch with them! Hear directly from the faculty what the classroom environment is like, talk about your academic interests (and theirs!), and experience first-hand how accessible Brown's faculty are to undergraduates.

Staying Legal: Immigration 101 (mandatory for all visa students)

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (P)
Learn everything you need to know about visas, employment, social security, among other topics related to immigration, and ask any questions you may have. This mandatory event is led by Elke Breker, Director of the Office for International Students and Scholars.

Small Group Discussions II and IMP Outdoor Activities (mandatory)

4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Regroup with your mentor group for a final opportunity to share you thoughts and first impressions, ask questions and get to know your peers. We'll transition from small group discussions in your mentor groups to outdoor activities with all the other international students.
