Having a mobile phone is not absolutely necessary, but it will prove useful during your time at Brown. There are a number of services that are available—the most popular ones have been summarized below. There are two major service options:

• Pay as you go—refill your phone whenever you run out.
• Monthly contract—Pay a fixed amount every month and receive bonuses such as discounted or free calls on nights and weekends.

Note: If you want a regular monthly contract and you do not have a credit history in the USA, you will be expected to put down a deposit between $400 and $600.
