Project ARISE: Advancing Rhode Island Science Education
Benefits of Participation include:
- Comprehensive instruction on and support for inquiry-based approaches to teaching that are integrated into teacher’s current science curriculum
- Neuroscience, Physiology, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics content integrated into general biology or more advanced biology classes
- Mobile lab equipment, advanced lab exercises and knowledgeable consultants available to teachers during the academic year following training and in subsequent years
- Students and teachers invited to Nature of Discovery Symposium held at Brown University in the spring
- Participation in a learning community of scientists, education specialists and high school biology teachers
Outcomes
At the completion of this program, it is anticipated that the following will be accomplished:
- Teachers will have incorporated an inquiry-based approach to learning into their classroom
- Teachers will have an enhanced content knowledge in molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, neuroscience and physiology
- Teachers will become part of a long-term learning community
- Teachers will have access to unit plans aligned with the new RI Grade Span Expectations
- Students will be introduced to cutting-edge laboratory experiments in the fields of molecular biology, neuroscience and physiology.
