Prepare for College Success

Pre-College courses are our most popular offerings - High school students who have completed at least the 9th grade explore favorite subjects, experience college life, and advance their studies without the pressure of grades.

Pre-College courses show you what it means to be completely absorbed in the learning process at an Ivy League University. As part of your learning, you will do things you may only have dreamed of - shadow a physician, hone your writing skills, map the stars, seek answers to human behavior, examine international affairs, or analyze your own DNA.

All courses meet Monday through Friday in the morning or afternoon for a minimum of 3 hours per day. You will have daily assignments, group work, and opportunities to meet with your instructor. Many courses feature site visits, labs, and hands-on projects, all of which broaden Summer@Brown learning experiences.

Take more than one course this summer

Many accepted students choose to attend multiple sessions throughout the summer, stringing together a series of one or two week courses. This option offers students the opportunity to create their own course of study and immerse themselves in a variety of subjects all summer long.

For information about taking more than one course in the same session, please contact our office.

A Summer@Brown experience goes far beyond the classroom

Outside of class, you will make friends, attend events and social activities on campus, and have time for summer fun. Preparing for college continues with Summer@Brown’s extensive Co-Curricular activity calendar – Workshops and presentations designed specifically to help you succeed with your college applications, and better prepare you for the transition to college-level academics.

Life on campus

What's life really like in the Ivy League? You'll find out. Summer@Brown is a true residential college experience - you'll attend class and study like a college student, and learn to balance an active campus life, full of academic, social, and co-curricular activities.

Where you will live

Students live in residence halls within walking distance of academic buildings and campus resources. Although most residence halls are coeducational, students will live in a same-sex floor unit with shared same-sex bathrooms.

Supervision

A team of carefully selected and trained Residence Directors (RDs) and Residential Advisors (RAs) live in the residence halls. These skilled and caring live-in professionals and Brown undergraduates help students create a balanced academic and social life.
