Digital Certificates

Digital Certificates

InCommon Certificates logoBrown has moved to a new (and improved) centralized web certificate service, available to all Brown areas and departments. As part of a partnership with numerous other institutions through InCommon, the cost of the service is completely covered by CIS, so there should be no need for departments to source certificates on their own.

Certificates will continue to be managed by the office of Computing Accounts and Passwords (CAP), and should be initiated by filling out a Remedy HD ticket under the category of "Digital Certificate". Please include in your ticket:

  • the "common name" (i.e. the name of the server)
  • the type of cert (SSL, Intranet SSL, Wildcard SSL, or Multi-Domain SSL)
  • the server software ( Apache, HP, Microsoft IIS, Oracle, Red Hat, etc)
  • the term of the cert (one, two, or three years)
  • the CSR

If you need any support on the filling out of the ticket, please contact the CAP directly at cap@brown.edu or 3-4357.
