What is an Image?

A disk image is a collection of software that is pre-installed and configured on a computer disk, then converted to a file. This file may then be used to generate exact copies of the disk.

For Brown University purchases of the standard Dell computers, CIS creates disk images containing a collection of Brown licensed software in in addition to the standard set of Dell software. Contents of the standard image.

The standard Dell computers are also available without image. These computers are pre-loaded with just the standard set of Dell software. If you are making a personal purchase you would be buying a Dell WITHOUT Image.
