Incident Response & Remedy

The Information Technology Security Computing Incident Response Team (CIRT) is the emergency response team for all IT security events at Brown University, and is critical to protecting Brown University's electronic communications infrastructure. With support from all areas of the University, the CIRT responds to a variety of incidents which could involve virus, spam, malicious software, phishing attacks, and social engineering. Responsibilities of CIRT include: identifying categories of malicious activity that threatens Brown University's computing infrastructure (such as Denial of Service attacks; rapidly spreading or highly virulent malicious code such as viruses, worms, trojans; unauthorized utilization of services by Brown community members or others; unauthorized access to protected computing and information services by Brown community members or others; and technical support for investigations approved by authorized Brown representatives on behalf of the University). The CIRT also coordinates appropriate responses to counter malicious threats, and develops group-level response for swift and complete action across the university.
