The products, processes, and therapies of the future will be designed by systematic manipulation of matter at the molecular and nanoscales. The discovery, development and safe commercialization of these products is beyond the reach of any one traditional discipline or profession.
IMNI promotes and coordinates multidisciplinary research and education in materials science, molecular science, and nanoscience at Brown. Our Institute is unique in its breadth and holistic approach; our faculty span nine departments in the physical, life, and social sciences and their interests span fundamental phenomena, technologies, and the environmental health and societal impacts of nanotechnology. We are committed to four cross-Institute themes:
- molecular and nanoscale product design
- team science
- responsible nanotechnology development
- new modes of interdisciplinary education and training
Brown’s intimate campus setting, flexible curriculum, soft disciplinary boundaries, strong research profile in materials science, nanoscience, and mechanics of materials, and its unique unified program in biology and medical practice, is an ideal place for this collaborative venture.
