Report features RI research spinoffs

Two Providence companies with intellectual property roots in Brown University research are featured in a national report released Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, by The Science Coalition. With 100 examples such as Nabsys Inc. and Tivorsan Pharmaceuticals, The Science Coalition’s report demonstrates the kind of economic impact that government investment in basic science research at universities can have around the country. Tivorsan, founded in 2008 and based on work by Justin Fallon, professor of neuroscience at Brown, is working to test a protein with therapeutic potential for certain muscular dystrophies. Nabsys, founded in 2004 and led by Dr. Barrett Bready, adjunct assistant professor of molecular pharmacology, physiology, and biotechnology at Brown, develops advanced gene sequencing technology based on research by Xinsheng Sean Ling, professor of physics.
