The Pembroke Center Associates are Brown University alumnae/i, parents, and friends who support the Pembroke Center and its scholars. Donations from Associates members help the Center to produce scholarly forums that are the lifeblood of innovative research and offer new courses for Brown's undergraduate students. The Associates also produce events featuring notable alumnae, campus lectures with Brown faculty, and oral history recordings. These avenues offer Brown alumnae/i and the broader community opportunities to engage with the Center’s research, teaching, and archives.

The Pembroke Center’s two complementary archives – the Christine Dunlap Farnham Archive and the Feminist Theory Archive – explore Brown and Rhode Island women’s history and the intellectual history of feminist theory. The Center has launched campaign to build an endowment to support these archives with enhanced resources to grow the collections and increase their accessibility for teaching and research. Thanks to a leadership gift of $1 million from Pembroke Center Associates Council chair Nancy L. Buc’65 – and increasing support from alumnae/i and friends – the Center is well on its way.
Surpassing its $1 million goal, the Pembroke Center announced the completion of the Pembroke Challenge on November 4, 2011 having raised $1,504,265 to endow new research initiatives at the Pembroke Center.
In October 2010, Elizabeth Munves Sherman ’77 P’06 P’09 challenged the wider community to raise $750,000 in support of the innovative research initiatives at the Pembroke Center. When the amount was met, she and her husband David Sherman ’79 P’06 P’09 donated $250,000, but the Center and its supporters went on to raise over $1.5 million to support new research at the Pembroke Center.
See what fascinating faculty research is now underway thanks to the sucess of this effort and the generosity of our donors.
