Daniel is determining the viability of CO2 clathrate hydrates as a source of feedstock CO2.  Under the proper conditions, the gas solute molecule is trapped inside an aqueous “cage” created by hydrogen-bonded water to form a clathrate hydrate. Formation of CO2 clathrate hydrates not only allows for the separation and purification of CO2 from flue gas, but also provides a reliable source of carbon as a starting material for several industrial reactions.
