Sue Alcock is the Deputy Vice President for Research and Special Assistant to the Provost for Strategic Initiatives. In this capacity, she is working with faculty groups to help develop and vet proposals for signature academic initiatives requiring significant levels of campus support.
Developing signature academic initiatives is an element of the University’s strategic planning process, which commenced in 2012-13. The Provost has invited faculty to bring ideas forward from across the full spectrum of the campus, including the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and engineering. The aim is to build on Brown’s existing strengths, distinctive multidisciplinary culture, and commitment to integrating education and scholarship. For more on this process, visit the Strategic Planning website.
Alcock is Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology and Director of the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, roles she continues.
