Summer@Brown: Second Course Options
Pre-College Programs at Brown University – Summer 2009
Two ways to take more than one course this summer:
Option 1 – Attend more than one course in different sessions
Summer@Brown offers multiple sessions throughout the summer from one to four weeks in length. Student may stay on campus to attend as many non-credit course sessions as they want.
Example: Many students choose to enroll in a 1-week course in the "1A" session, and continue on to take a 3-week course in a "3A" session.
Option 2 - Take two courses in the same session
In response to numerous student requests, Summer@Brown now offers accepted students who have paid their deposits the option to take a second, non-credit course in the same session as their first course for an additional fee.
Course Eligibility
If a student chooses to enroll in two courses in the same session, the second course must be the same length as the primary course.
Example: Students enrolled in a "3A" 3-week course may take a second course offered in that 3-week session. Students enrolled in a "3A" 3-week course may not take a second course that is offered in a 1-week or 2-week session.
Note: Not all Summer@Brown Pre-College courses allow a second course option. Some courses have lab or off-site components that conflict with the class meeting time of a second course. These courses are clearly identified in the Summer@Brown Course Finder.
Important considerations for students and parents considering a second course in the same session:
Only accepted students who have sent in their deposits may request a second course.
A second course is a significant time commitment. Non-credit pre-college courses meet every day for approximately 3 hours. Students who enroll in a second course should expect to be in class for approximately six hours per day.
All Summer@Brown pre-college courses are rigorous and require significant additional time outside of class for course readings, group projects, discussion, etc. All students should expect to spend an additional 1-3 hours per class each day on coursework outside of class. Students enrolled in two courses are expected to meet all academic requirements established by instructors.
Students requesting an accommodation due to a qualifying disability or medical condition should self-identify by filling out the Medical and Disability Accommodations Form. To obtain information about accommodations you may need, please e-mail summer@brown.edu after you have submitted the form.
