Intensive English Language in the Globalized World

Images of IEP Students

Students will find themselves in classrooms with students from around the world and will exchange ideas from their cultural perspectives.

IEP offers a rigorous and challenging curriculum. Students should expect 1-3 hours of homework each day.

Mornings – Intensive English Study

Each morning students attend courses focused on intensive English language study – speaking, writing, pronunciation, and grammar.  In small groups, students will:

  • Develop higher-level language skills
  • Fine-tune their English grammar
  • Focus on written and verbal expression in an academic context
  • Improve their pronunciation
  • Engage in discussions which explore cultural and social similarities and differences

Afternoon Electives– Choose courses focused on a global or American experience topic.

During the 4-week program, students select two 2-week pre-college courses - one from session "2A" and one from session "2B":

*ESL courses meet for 3 hours each day and use topics of global importance to help students improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening skills in English. Students can choose this course for one or both of the two-week options within their 4-week program.

Late Afternoon Course (optional): iBT TOEFL Preparation

At no additional cost, students may choose to add an internet-based TOEFL Preparation course to their academic schedule.  Students in this class review the grammar, listening, and reading-comprehension skills associated with the TOEFL test. You will also consider test-taking strategies and practice with both the computer and paper-based forms of the test. At the end of the course, you will take a practice computer-based test to evaluate your level. This course is appropriate for students at all proficiency levels. This course meets 4 hours each week for 4 weeks.
