Commencement for Advanced-Degree Recipients
Dear Graduate Students,
We are delighted to provide you with news of Brown University’s 239th Commencement on Sunday, May 27. This is an important and joyous event for you, your family, the Graduate School, and the entire University community.
By now you should have received an application to graduate from the Office of the Registrar, please complete this form and return it to the Registrar by Friday, April 27, 2007. The application to graduate is essential to clear your requirements with your academic department and making the necessary arrangements to have you included in the 2007 list of graduates. If you intend to participate in this year’s Commencement Ceremony, we ask that you go to our registration page and provide us with all of the requested information. This registration system is new this year and is designed to help us plan more carefully for your ceremony. It also asks you to provide us with important details about your accomplishments while at Brown, which will be printed in the 2007 Commencement program. If you are unable to access the registration system or have any other questions regarding this year’s ceremony, please contact Kami Crary at 401-863-2836.
This year the Graduate School has contracted with an external company to take photographs of all degree candidates as they collect their diplomas and after they leave the stage. As the number of participants in our ceremony has grown, it has become increasingly difficult for families or students to document this important moment. Please see here for more information about photography. Please note: The Graduate School has no expectation or requirement that graduates purchase photos from Island Photo.
Academic regalia must be worn for the Graduate School Ceremony. You may purchase your academic regalia (cap, gown, and hood if necessary) at the Brown Bookstore. Personalized graduation announcements are also available through the Brown Bookstore. For more information, please contact the Bookstore directly: 401-863-3168.
All candidates for advanced degrees who wish to participate in this year’s Commencement activities are required to attend the Graduate School Ceremony rehearsal on Saturday, May 26 at 2:30 P.M. on Lincoln Field. Ph.D. recipients should bring their hoods. A reception for all advanced-degree recipients and their family members and guests will follow the rehearsal on Manning Walk.
The Graduate School Ceremony will start at approximately 10:30am on Lincoln Field. Please note that your family members and guests do not need tickets for the ceremony, but that all seating is first-come, first-served. This year there will be a photographer hired to make pictures of each advanced-degree candidate during the ceremony.
Individuals with disabilities requesting accommodations during the weekend should contact the Office of University Events as far in advance as possible at 401-863-2108. A form for requesting parking permit for persons with special accessibility needs is available on the Commencement website.
